Happiness

  • As the beautiful sun sets
  • Another day is over
  • People around me are searching for happiness
  • In money or a lover

  • But this feeling is queer
  • Sand beneath my feet and stars above me head
  • What else do people need
  • This ocean is a lullaby, this ground is the bed

  • The stars that shine bright
  • Remind me every night
  • That it’s lonely up there
  • And it’s dark without any light

  • This ocean lapping at my feet
  • Is a feeling that keeps me grounded
  • How does everyone else manage without it
  • I’m astounded

  • The sun with its pretty colours
  • Replaced by the moon
  • That shines at night with all its might
  • I hope people start appreciating this soon

  • The colours of nature are oh so beautiful
  • From trees that are green to the sky that is blue
  • Each flower’s design is so intricate
  • So neatly done in every hue

  • Is everyone so busy, that they forget to marvel?
  • This universe, it’s mysteries and magnitude
  • Is it just me who pauses to feel curious?
  • Is it just me who enjoys this solitude?

  • I often let my thoughts wander freely
  • What if the world was ending
  • Will it be due to our own vices?
  • Can money save the world from falling?

  • Why has greed diseased humanity
  • And selfishness too, I ponder
  • What happened to the harmony and love
  • That once helped us grow fonder

  • Many give it little thought
  • What life could be without money
  • Why would anyone help each other for free?
  • The mere thought is funny

  • I take long walks under the moon
  • I feel the sand and ocean too
  • Touching my feet ever so often
  • A feeling such, felt by no shoe

  • I hum to myself a tune that makes
  • The moon shine brighter
  • The world feel happier and reminds me
  • That I really am a fighter

  • And that all my problems are not quite hard
  • I should take them in my stride
  • I can face my problems bravely
  • I needn’t cower and hide

  • Personally I think
  • That we should work on ourselves
  • To be that better best
  • We always wish people had in themselves

  • After all, what matters in the end
  • Is that you’re satisfied and glad
  • Because money leaves you bankrupt
  • And love leaves you broken and sad

  • You don’t need to confine yourself to only one interest
  • You can be a teacher who teaches history
  • And is also a part time writer
  • Who writes about many a mystery

  • Many times I’ve fallen asleep
  • And am woken up on this beach
  • By the sun smiling at me bright
  • And telling me that happiness is within my reach

  • I smile back and get out of bed
  • I dust my clothes and drive back home
  • And get ready for teaching
  • Children about ancient Rome

  • I come back to this beach every night
  • And write my mystery fiction
  • This is how I’ve lived my life
  • Giving nature and myself all the attention
